AFS Animal Care
Breeders, Handlers & Trainers
The breeding and production of pure breds require not only knowledge of genetics, nutrition, animal health and husbandry, but a rare personal dedication to the breed.  This combination of art and science has produced the world's finest examples of the various breeds available.

Breeding, nutrition, health care and management are all critical too, and important to the animal fancier.  AFS made a steadfast commitment long ago to provide the professional breeders with the finest nutritional support possible through its REAL MEAT DIETS.

The most biologically stressful time of any dog's life is when a bitch is in whelp, manufacturing a belly full of puppies. For years, professional breeder testimonials have given evidence to the fact that AFS fresh raw meat diets have produced larger and healthier litters than ever seen before!

EXAMPLE: A major breeder of German Shepherds switched to feeding AFS raw meat diets back in 2003, and approximately three years later reported having had successful litters of 11, 11, 12, 12, and look out...14 pups! Her reaction, "My bitches sailed through the entire whelp cycle without weight loss or losing that beautiful shine on their coats. That's no fluke and yet nearly unbelievable!"

Formerly, while feeding other foods believed to be nutritious, this same breeder consistently witnessed litter after litter of just 4-6 pups over a 40-year span; and even with so few, her bitches experienced weight loss and coat deterioration (the most obvious signs of pour protein assimilation).

Have you seen your best female show dog lose her coat and become so thin every rib could be easily counted? Not only did the dog look miserable, it was! But this does not have to be, AFS raw meat diets are so complete in balanced nutrition that bitches do NOT deteriate during whelp and can promptly return to the ring afterward.

These results, along with an increased life span of health and vitality, is why a countless number of breeders keep their prize bitches and studs on AFS raw meat diets. Even large breeds like Rottweilers have been reported to live well and 'Vet Free' for 18+ years!

AFS and breeders alike, understand that nutrition is only a portion of what goes into the making of a champion; and that the best bred animal in the world will not reach full potential without proper nutrition.

What is proper nutrition for a dog or cat (a carnivore)?  When observing carnivores in the wild (not those held captive in zoos and wildlife parks), rarely do we see a wolf that is thin... and never one that is too fat!  Their coats are thick and healthy, tartar on their teeth is unheard of, and they have thrived for thousands of years without the benefits of veterinary medicine.

The AFS Meat Diets were developed by animal nutritionists and veterinarians for professional animal breeders, and provides today's domesticated carnivores with their ancestor's preferred, natural food source... fresh RAW meat!

The AFS complete and balanced raw meat diets really GO AGAINST THE GRAIN when it comes to nutritional superiority over those store bought, grain based dog foods!   MEAT EATERS NEED MEAT and ORGAN MEATS....NOT GRAIN...and NOT HIGHLY PROCESSED GARBAGE MEATS (Chicken Meal, Fish Meal, etc.)... as a foundation for a proper diet.
Specifically designed for proper growth and extended health over 30 years ago, the AFS fresh real meat diets are ready-to-eat, conveniently packaged, frozen or freeze-dried, in either 5 lb. rolls, individual 8 oz. pet patties and mini-treat patties (formulated separately for dogs or cats).

  • COMMITTED TO NUTRITIONAL EXCELLENCE, AFS provides the highest quality in fresh meat diets at a reasonable price; enabling breeders to produce the world's finest of champions.

    Points To Consider When
    Qualifying An Animal Breeder
Is the breeder knowledgeable about the breed?
Is the breeder informative about the breed in general, as well as forthcoming with what you should know specifically about the breed (i.e., normal adult size, exercise needed, adaptability to indoors, adaptability to other dogs and animals, adaptability to children, likely temperaments, breed intelligence, etc.)?
Does the breeder offer interest and/or support in after home care?
Does the breeder indicate a high interest in animal care?
Does the breeder screen prospective buyers?  Did he/she screen you?  A responsible breeder will generally ask:
    • If you have or did have other pets; and how long
    • What may have happened to previous pets
    • What kinds of other pets the new pet may come in contact with
    • If you have a house or an apartment
    • If the new pet will be fenced in
    • What your skills or plans are regarding animal training
    • If you plan on utilizing any form of crate training
Is the area where the animal was bred and raised clean?
What responsibility(ies) has the breeder taken toward animal health and wellness (i.e., weaning, de-worming, vaccines, house training, nutrition, grooming, parasite control, etc.)  Breeders should have the beginning puppy shots already administered and you will probably have to finish the series.
Are all related documents regarding breeding status, medical history and/or any health guarantees in proper order and readily available?
Don't hesitate to ask for verification of anything and everything you feel is important.

    Show Dogs ...

...may be purchased for their pedigree, but they win points for their conformation, condition and hair coat.

The most important factor in the development of all three of these is not a dog's genetic background, but its feeding program.

A dog's confirmation is influenced by its heredity.  A dog will follow the template nature has cut out for it, as long as adequate nutrients and energy are available for it to do so.  Not even double dominance can overpower the results of a dietary deficiency!..."
